Get Involved, Get Active

Whether its attending the OEA's organizing summit or the World Arts Foundation's MLK celebration, there are many ways for PAT members to get involved and get active in our union and our community. Here are some upcoming opportunities:

OEA Organizing Summit January 8-9, Salem, OR
Join educators from around the state for two days of training, skill-sharing, and networking as we plan the next steps in the Better Oregon campaign, and how we use it to deepen our community ties and strengthen our union at work. For more information or to register visit the OEA website

OEA Symposium January 30th Salem, OR 9:30am to 4pm
Where are student assessments headed in Oregon? Educators from around the state will join national experts for a discussion of the state of our state’s assessments and how we can finally break with narrowly-focused high stakes testing, and the state’s punitive approach to educator accountability. For more information or to register visit OEA's website.

MLK Celebration, January 18th
Once again, PAT is a proud sponsor of the World Arts Foundation MLK Anniversary Celebration. The event takes place Monday January 18th, from 12:00-6:00 p.m. at the Highland Christian Center, 7600 NE Glisan St, Portland, OR 97213.

Instruction and Professional Development Committee Meeting
The first IPD meeting of the year is scheduled for January 6, 4:30pm at the PAT office. We’ll be discussing assessments, safety, discipline and any other instructional interests. IPD is open to all PAT members.

Social Justice and Community Outreach Committee
In January, the Social Justice and Community Outreach (SJCO) committee will be surveying all PAT members about the various community and civic organizations you are involved with, and to determine who we should invite to our upcoming community forums. Please watch out for the survey, and if you’d like to get involved in the committee contact Rachel Hanes, [email protected].
