Know Your Contract: Leaves

As we stated in our FAQs about the strike settlement, leaves should be applied for and used per our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).  Please remember that no one should falsify or misrepresent the nature of their leave requests.

Information and forms about leaves can be found on PPS’ website.

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) process is NOT required for leaves unless you have a qualifying reason for FMLA. As PPS’ site states:

IMPORTANT: Anytime employees are missing work for more than three (3) days due to their own serious health condition, to care for a family member's serious health condition, or for a military leave, they are likely eligible for leave through federal and/or state law that provides employees with certain job protections.  In these cases, employees are directed to contact FMLASource to open a request for leave.

The “3 days” language is incorrect for PAT members but applies to other union partners. As confirmed by our Contract Administration meetings from Fall 2022, PAT members are not directed to contact FMLASource until after five (5) days of leave.
