Each year the National Education Association, the Oregon Education Association, and the Portland Association of Teachers sponsor Read Across America, an event designed to encourage reading and community involvement in our schools.

To support this effort, PAT awards grants from $50 to $200 to individuals or teams who have designed specific activities where children can read in the company of an adult. Applications were evaluated based on the amount of parent and community involvement, the amount of direct student involvement, and the proposed activity’s creativity.  Priority was given to events with the most community involvement.
